What is NeoPDP Technology?

Panasonic’s revolutionary NeoPDP Technology has been taking the world by storm. NeoPDP provides sleek, slim TV's which look stunning and consume half the amount of power of older models without losing any brightness. So you can see why so people are excited by it - not only does it look great, but it’s energy efficient too, and therefore saves the environment - not to mention your electricity bills!

How Does It Work?

The NeoPDP technology is self illuminating, and therefore improves flat panel lighting, giving you better image clarity, deeper blacks , brighter whites and more vivid colours - whilst at the same time reducing power consumption. Panasonic Neo PDP Z1 squeezes in everything, but measures just 1 inch thick and adds wireless HD, sending uncompressed full HD 1080p images direct to the screen without the clutter of wires.

The technology has three main areas of improvement; Gas discharge and cell design, electronic circuit technologies and materials and processes.

The Gas discharge and cell design improvement aspect means that larger cells emit more light at a lower power, meaning you get a screen that is 50% brighter than ever before. Alternatively you could choose to save the environment and your electric bill by choosing to reduce the power consumption by half. Contrast levels have also been improved and now offer a ratio of 2,000,000:1.

The electronic Circuit technology means that all NeoPDP screens come with a 600Hz sub field, which creates 12 subframes for each frame of video and therefore drastically improves motion tracking - making watching sports and playing video games a far more enjoyable experience.

The materials and processes element of NeoPDP introduces the environmentally friendly eco mode, which uses lead in the manufacturing process. By using lead, Panasonic have drastically reduced CO2 emissions. Eco Mode uses a photo sensor to measure the ambient light in the room and then adjusts the panel’s brightness accordingly. This energy saving Eco Link puts all connected Panasonic devices into Stand-by Mode when they are not in use.

The main area of interest in the NeoPDP technology is the screen thickness. The screens are now much slimmer (at just 8.8mm for the Z1 range), they are in turn also much lighter.

The technology has been applied to all of Panasonics top of the range TV’s, including; Z1, V10, G15 and G10 models.

The main issues with Plasma’s have always been the running costs, but with running costs being halfed, Plasma now has the edge over LCD.

NeoPDP technology improves the overall performance of Plasma’s considerably, and to prove this the Panasonic TX-P42V10 received the best plasma award for 2009-2010 from the European imaging & sound association.
